Where to Spend Christmas Away From Home

December 22, 2018

Being away from home can sometimes be tough especially during the holidays. If you find yourself away from home but still wanting to get in the spirit on Christmas day, there are plenty of places around the country where you can spend Christmas and get the best out of it.

Where to Celebrate

There are cities in the country that live and breathe Christmas so if you’re stuck near one of them, finding Christmas spirit wont be hard at all. First stop, New York City! New York has Christmas sights and sounds everywhere you look from the famous Rockefeller Center tree to the holiday store displays. Visit (or stay at) the Plaza hotel and pretend to be Kevin Mcallister or take a carriage ride through central park. New York has so much to offer and Christmas time is a must see in this beautiful city. If you can’t make it to Germany for Weihnachtsmarkt, Frankenmuth, Michigan is the little Bavaria of the U.S. If you’re near Durango, Colorado you can ride the actual Polar Express to the “North Pole” while sipping hot chocolate or ride it to cut down your own Christmas  tree and bring it back to decorate.

Where to Eat

If you’re on the road on Christmas and a warm meal is on your mind more than Christmas cheer, there are plenty of restaurants that will be open on Christmas no need to fear. You can find an open Ihop or Denny’s pretty much anywhere on Christmas if you’re looking for something simple, and they often feature at least something holiday themed. If you want to fancy it up a little bit, it is Christmas after all, you can stop by a hotel. Even if you don’t stay at the hotel, the restaurant is usually open every day including Christmas and often offer special Christmas dinners. Check out The Langham in Chicago. Another favorite open on Christmas Day specializing in Christmas dinner is Boston Market. Their holiday meals will make you feel like you’re at home. Being away from home on Christmas isn’t always easy but there are places all around the country that can help you celebrate the holidays even if you’re away.
